Selection Guide – Which Crusher for Your Material?
For hard and abrasive materials such as granite or basalt, a three-stage crushing sequence works best: start with a jaw crusher, follow with a cone crusher, and finish with a VSI to produce high-quality sand.
When processing medium-hard rock like limestone or dolomite, you can choose either a jaw crusher or an HSI as the primary unit, then send the material through a VSI for final shaping.
River gravel, which is rounded and hard, requires a different approach: use a cone crusher to break the pebbles, followed by a VSI operating in rock-on-rock mode to achieve the desired cubical shape.
Recycled concrete is best handled by a jaw crusher or an HSI, but always include a magnet in the circuit to remove steel reinforcement.
For soft rock such as sandstone, an HSI or a roll crusher provides efficient size reduction without over-crushing the material.
